KIHIKIHI.
[by electic telegraph.]
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Hon. the Native Minister arrived here on Saturday last, from Alexandra, and put up at Anderson's Hotel. He was accompanied l by his Private Secretary, Mr Lewi*3 : ftir Grace, Native A<?enfc ; Mr Bush, R.M., and several native chiefs of considerable importance. rfe was met at the Hotel by Rewi, whose greeting and manner were mo^t cordial. Mr Sheehan's arrival here was evidently anticipted by the natives over the Pania and •settlements contiguous thereto, for, from an early hour of the day m question, they came flocking into the township, until about midday, when their numbers were somewhat considerable. They brought with them, for the occasion, an abundant supply of food, m the shape of beef, pork and potatoes, which were cooked and served up within the enclosure, at the Canstabulary Barracks. At 2 p.m., Mr Sheehan and party, accompanied by Rewi and all the natives available, adjourned to the school-room, where a meeting was held, whic > lasted an hour and a half. Eewi spoke first, and for a considerable time, he wa3 listened to by the native audience, with breathless attention. He was followed by several chiefs of note and influence. The purport of the meeting was, I learn, of a purely business and practical kind, affecting the .King movement and country. The result of which, I am authoritatively informed, will be most beneficial to this locality m particular, and to the colony at large. But Rewi has valid reasons at present, for desiring that the par ticulars of the meeting m the schoo 1 room should not reach the newspapers., . ' ■ '
