[from our own correspondent.] ALEXANDRA, Wednesday

AUCKLAND, laso night. A. ' Stars' special, dated London, April 29, says the Chillian fleet blockaded the sea port of lqueique, m Perue, and bombarded Hi vanillas and Pabelloudipica.

The Ministerial party left for Waikato at 3 o'clock, and remain at Ngaruawahia to-night, going to Hamilton m the morning and on to Alexandra after turning the first sod of the' railway. At Alexandra Te Wheoro meets the party, and will take them on m four war canoes.

Tbe deed of arrangement, between Bernard Charles Bealo and his Creditors was declared completely executed to-day, on application by Mr ileskcth. to the Supreme Court. NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. Mr Driscoll, employed m connection with the Public Works Department surveying the railway line Jat the back of tbe mountain between Stradford and Mangawhero, was waited upon on Friday by the Maoris, who informed him that he would have to remove his men, or that they would be cleared away the following day. It is generally current that practical effect to the warning will be given by the natives on Satnrday. The Government, have been informed of the circumstances.

,HAWERA, Tuesday. The Maoris have stopped Maclean's men falling bush on the mountain road, about a mile up the track from Peterman. • It is thought this action is taken by Maoris who o.vn this block as a ! reserve from Government, which extends four miles up the Mountain Road. Since the Maori reserve was taken, and a less valueable one given m its place near Stratford, the natives say they do not know when this block may be taken," and one of lesser value given m its place. The sooner a commissioner or something of the sort settles this vexed question of reserves throughout the district the better.

TAURANGA, Wednesday. The ' Bav 1 of Tlenty Times' says that the solicitors instructed by the Government to prosecute Mr Robert Graham find it quite impossible to lay a case against that gentleman. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. It is not intended to commence the collection of the land tax during the present financial year. The first, of July will pro'iably be' fixed upon as the date for paying the first instalment. WELLINGTON, Tuesday.

It seems generally understood that the Government will nex!t session propose a new public works loan of four millions, and home advices are hopeful of the probability of placing it successfully m the market after September next.

Elaborate returns are beino* prepared, showing the effect on the timber tiado of the Cobny by the removal of duty of last session.

In an article ou ths revenue of the year, the ' Chronicle' of last . night says:— "The land revenue; having fallen to zero, we must be ! prepared for a deficiency on tho estimates for the year. The expectation of a large income/ about £300,000, from the Watmate plains, and the political necessity unforeseen, and outside the control of the Government, of deferring the sale beyond the financial year,, has thrown the estimate cut on this item. The deficiency will probably be about £300,000, but on tbe other hand, the payments saved m the form of New Plymouth harbor endowment, and the 20 per cent., will reduce tho deficiency almost £9,0,000, being £220,000, to be further assailed by the surplus to which we have referred, and by the general saving on the votes. The 'ordinary resource* will suffice to overcome the difficulty of the unexpected falling, off due to self-defence on the p al 't of the monetary institutions of the colony, arising from the general distrust created by the falure of the City of Glasgow Bank, and the fall m our staple articles ot production. Yet it is not difficult to realise the fact that but for the untoward circumstances of a bank's failure, and the restiveness of a section of the natives, and even the estimate, of the land revenue, there might have been a handsome surplus. We have told a plain unvarnished tale, which those who are inclined may, without scruple, translate into substantial reality, demonstrating the soundness of the colonial finance, m spite of much representation of the burden the,

colony undertook to boar when it colonized the land revenue, and provided on a' scale of comparative ; magnificence, education for instil u- j tions which had formerly been existing m a state of destitution." , It has been arranged that Sir Hercules Robinson is to come to Auckland at the conclusion of his Southern trip, and to remain here for a mouth prior to the meeting of Parliament- The Hinemoa will, leave Auckland on Sunday next, for the purpose of taking His Excellency from here to the North. GREYMO TJTH, Tuesday. A tidal wave came up the river last axgh'-j at 6.15. The only vessel m port, the tig Despatch, had her three mooring-ropes, one of them 4£ inch, snapped. Some watermen's boats were swamped, and stove m. The Wave was over three feet. high, at Scutari, and the Turkish troopa have been ordered out. [reuter's special cablegrams.] x LOJNDON, April 28. The House oV Commons nega< tived the motion censuring the financial administration of the Government with majority m favor of Government of 303 votes against 230. Consols, 98*. The >latler regretted that he, would be unable to be pr'esont at the Melbourne International Exhibition, but hoped to visit the colonies later.
