Yesterday the County Ohairman interviewed the Ngahkaka tribe at Te Aroha with reference to oppoition to snagging the Waihou River. The chief of the tribe refused to allow the work to proceed, unless compensated for loss of telegraph wires He said he did not stop Mr Eirth from snagging, because he did it the right way. Failing a satisfactory reply, Mr Brodie left them. He will tase steps m a court of law to assert the right of the County to snag the river. GRAHAMSTOWN Tuesday. Whilst removing a house at Waiotahi Creek yesterday afternoon a i man found an outcrop reef, which i showed gold plainly. The discovery 1 has created some excitement, and claims are pegged out. The natives again obstructed snagging operations m the Waihou | River yesterday morning.
