THE NEXT CATTLE SHOW.
A numerously aud influenfcially attended meeting of members of the Cambridge Farmers Club, of the Waikato Pastoral Association, and others interested m the Cattle Show proposed to be held m Hamilton took place yesterday, at Gwynne's Hotol. Mr J- B. Whyte was voted to the chair, and opened the meeting by explaining that he had called io for fche object of establishing a general Waikato Show ; but though ib was to be hoped that fche Show would be one of all Waikato ifc was both desirable and necessary that ib should be carried out with the co-operation of the Cambridge Farmers' Club and the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. If fche Sho nr were made a general one aud held convenient to a railway station it would be largely supported from Auckland. The question of actual site was, however, a matter of afber detail. If ifc was . held near the Auckland Railway Station, a great number uf persons who would not otherwise interest themselves m ifc would become warm supporters of the Show.
Mr Peter Walker understood that there was £60 m the hands of the Waikato and Pastoral Association, which that body would be willing to hand over if fche Show were held near the l ail way station, as well as to support the undertaking m every possible way. The Cambridge people objected to sending stock across the punt, bufc fche punt need uo longer now be used for that purpose, as there was the bridge over the river at fche Narrows.
Mr Brown said this objection to fche use of the punt applied both ways., and was last year just; as objectionable to people sending cattle from the Waipa side to Cambridge.
Mr Hume suggested the appointment- of a committee to make necessary asraugements.
Captain Steele thought so too, and that a committee should be now appointed to meet; and confer with committees to be severally appointed by bhe Cambridge Farmers' Club and the Pastoral Association. He moved that a committee of the following gen'lemen, namely, the Mayor and Messrs Jolly, P. Walker, John Runciman, and IC. Hill be appointed, and that the Cambridge Farmers' Club and the Pastoral Association be requested to appoint committees of a like number, all three committees to meet at Hamilton on Saturday week and arrange matters. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Buttle m answer to a question stated that; the cosb of lasb year's Show afc Cambridge was about ,£6OO including prizes and judge's expenses which latter item had now became a serious matter. The Show he believed had paid its own way last; year. The year before ifc cost £500 and cleared its expenses. Captain Runciman said this cost was exclusive of the Show yards which had cosfc about £150. Mr Buttle said thab if ifc was expected to gefc the best class of cattle to exhibit ifc was necessary to provide covered yards for the stock. The meeting expressed an opinion that the most suitable site for a Waikato Cattle Show was at Frankton ou the -property of Mr Jolly adjoining the Hamilton Railway Station. Captain McPherson was appointed Secretary and Treasurer to the Hamilton Committee. This terminated the business.
