RESIDENT MAGISTRATES COQRT.

(Before Dc Waddington, J.P.) George Pennyfield was charged with being of unsound mind — delirium tremens. Sergeant McGovern said the prisoner ■was apprehended after U o'clock on Friday night. He was becoming a nuisance to both the police and the public. He now imagined that the notorious bushrangers, the Kellys, were secreted in tile Commercial Hotel. The Sergeant would have asked His Worship to remand the prisoner until Tuesday were it not that two of his mates had kindly offered to take him away to Hakanui and look after him. His Worship remarked that if the prisoner did not cease drinking alcoholic liquors, he would be sent to prison. Owing to what the Sergeant stated, he would let him go with his mates, but if he came before the Court again he would certainly be committed to gaol. Fined, os and costs ; in default, fortyeight hoars'. The fine was paid, and Pennyfield was taken charge of by his mates.
