WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

and the Hamilton Borough o>uncil, stating that those bodies would be willing to co-operate with the Waipa County Council m the establishment of a hospital for the Waikato districts. Cr. Germaun thought delegates should be appointed to meet representatives from those Councils, to discuss the matter, aud also to ascertain what the Government would do, and whether any land could be appropriated for the purpose of endowments. -Kg thought it would be desirable to canvass for subscriptions. _ Cr. Cunningham objected to subscriptions being solicited. He thought th burden of supporting Buch institutions ought to be borne equally by all members of the community, a result not likely to be obtained by the voluntary Bystem. Or. Hadfield said, he should be decidedly opposed to the movement, unless some distinct understanding was arrived at, with Government, that the subsidies should be continued. Some difference of opinion existed amongst the members of the Council, on . the following question :— Mr Sheehan, m his telegram, had promised, if a hospital were established, Government would give £ for £ for all monies raised, by Council for its support. \ , Cr. Hadfield maintained that, if tho' Council voted a sum from the County Subsidy equivalent, say, to the amount i now deducted towards support of Au<&land Hospital, Government would supple- ■ ment with like amount. Cr. Buttle thought it was only money money raised specially, either by rate or voluntary subscriptions, whioh would be recognised. After some discussion as to the most suitable place for situation of hospital (the general feeling of the Council being decidedly m favor of Ngaruawahia) Cr. Aubin proposed that Crs. Germann and Buttle should be appointed delegates, to confer with members of other Councils on the matter. The motion was seconded by Cr. Cunningham, and agreed to.

COUNCIL chamber,

An agreement was laid on the table, signed by Mr Edwards, by which he very liberally gave half-an-acre of land, on the north side of Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Sale Yards, as a site for the Council Chambers, so long as Ohaupo continued to be the place of meeting. Crs. Buttle, Steele aud Reynolds were appointed a committee, with instructions to get plans and esciinatcs for suitable buildings, by next meeting. Cr. Aubin proposed that the Council should take steps to take over all lands reserved for public recreation, within the j urisdiction of Waipa County. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Commissicner of Crown Lands, on the subject.

day op meeting

Cr. Cunningham proposed that m future, the meetings of the Council be held at 3 o'clock p.m., on the second Tuesday m each month. Cr. Buttle said he would not object to meetings being held on sale days provided such an hour were fixed as would enable the bnsiness being got through before the sale commenced. He thought 3 p.m. too late. The motion, having been seconded, was put to the meeting— Crs. Cunningham, Steele, Hadfield, and Corboy voting for it ; Civ. Germann, Buttle, Reynolds, and Aubin against it. This being a tie, the Chair mau gave his castiug vote against the motion. This concluded the business.
