WHATAWHATA.
February 1. On Monday evening last, the annual meeting' of householders took place in the Hchoolroom, and a lai'ge number of settlers were present. Some considerable time was occupied at the outset with an interesting discussion on the qualifications necessary in a voter, the result being that the Act was interpreted by a majority of thoso present to mean that anyone is entitled to vote provided the individual does not reside in the opou air. Eveiyone, accordingly, voted, and the following gentlemen were duly elected a school committee: Messrs Day, Maimvaring, Dawson, Iwersen, Braithwaite, F.oxall, and Crawford, of whom Mr Mainwaring was chosen Chairman.
I am glad to say that our new schoolmaster, Mr Legallais, has arrived, and will open school on Friday. This gentleman has had great experience as a teacher, aud is, indeed, a welcome addition to tho residents in this district. A first-class teacher's residence is in course of erection, and will be completed in about a mouth. The house, when finished, will bo a handsome addition to the township, and cortainly wo shall have nothing but good words for the Education Board, who have treated us so liberally in tho mattev of school buildings.—Own CoftBEsaroNDUNX.
