The Cambridge Band, iu their smart unifQru), played throughout the day from the top of the grand stand. Betting was extensively carried oti, and much money changed hands. The first eveut was the Hurdle Race, for iOaOvs., tvyo miles. Rarey and Count \yerp scratched. ' Loafer and The Belle got \yell away together, and took the hurdles in first-rate stylo the first time round. At the third hurdle The Belle baulked, but was brought up to it and got aeries. .Loafer had it all his own way, and won iu a canter. Maiden Mate, U- mjtfos. 'Time, 3 mlu. 2 sees. ICat'hleeu Bivyn was scratched. feeven van. A good start was made, and the horses kept all in a ruck for the first lime round, Master and Orakau leading. J'u | the second roifnd Malvern pulled up his lost ground and won hy a fev/ lengths, Orakau second, Master third. This was a splendid race. Cambridge Cup, 30sovs., 2 miles. Time, i iuiu HI sees. This, too, was a oapital race. The pvses ;*au all together for twice round the course, Tui leading by a neck. Iu the fchhvd round Flirt got tbe lead and kept it, \vjuuing J^y twenty yards. Clipper beat Tui for second place by naif a liead. Tui was doue and broyghi in lame. liaek Tiace, '4 entries. Jprkwoody's Gladstone, and Rose's Micky Free, ran uech-and-neok all tiuouyh. Gladstone won by a length ; Harp's Ranger, a good third. This was a
very good race. The winner wan put up to auction by Mr Bi-iglit, find was bought iu by Mr Kirkwood, fo.--£'2s. JPiblicau's «Pu i ; se,' Loafer, Derby and Malvern." The horses ran within a few lengths of each other- tho whole way. Malvern. won hard held. Trotting . Rice, - five- started. Time : 6niin. •l-O-J-sec. MiJs Wliiffiei\ and Kato broke several times soon after the start, and lost ground. Blackthorne and Simon ran neck and neck all through. It was a splendid race, and Blackthorns won by a length, Simon, second, Miss Whiilller third. - Consolation Haudicap, 3 entered The first time round, the horses kept , well together. .In ,t f ho second roun I, \ Multum in P^ivo fell behind, ami the race lay between o'ipp»r and Orakau, the latter winning by half a length. Hurry Scurry, catch weights, once round course, five ran. Mr Fisher's horse: won. The Band played " God Save the Queen," and the sports cdncludbd.
