WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at Mr Burkes Hotel, Obaupo on Friday, December 27th, for the purpose of appointing valuers and transacting other business, Present : Council ors Germarm (Chairman), Steele, Buttle, Had field, Reynolds and Corboy. The minutes of last ordinary meeting having been read and confirmed, the Council proceeded to appoint valuers.

It was proposed by Cr. Steele that ihe valuers of the several Highway Districts be appointed valuers to the Council pro forma, aid be requested t j furnish the Council with a copy of the assessment lists of. their respective districts, to be paid for at rate j of thirty shillings each for the High way districts of Hamilton, Alexaudra, Ngdrua wahia, Kihikihi and Tuhikaramea, and two guineas e»ch for those of Pukekura, Newcastle, : Manga pi ko and Rangiaohui. The motion was sesonded by Cr, Corboy, and carried unanimously. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Hiarrrnen of the different Highway Boards requesting them to arrange with the valuers of their several districts for supplying the Council with the lists and asking that they would at once communicate Avith the Chairman of the Council informing him if the arrangement had been made m any case where the valuer declined to furnish the list for the sam fixed by the Council, it was resolved that the Chairman of this Council should have full power to appoint some other persou or make such arrangements as he may think fit. RAILWAY STATION AT WASHERS' CROSSING. A letter from Mr W. Johns was received, enclosing copy of a petition (which lias already appeared m the Waikato Times), forwarded to the General Assembly during ils late sitting, through Mr McMiun, the member for Wuipa. . After some discussion it was decided that the Council should take no further action m this matter.

HOSPITALS. A communication was roceiv-i-l from the treasury enclosing copy of voucher for the sum of £554 4s 31, which had been placed to the credit, of the County fund at the Bank ef New Zealand, Te Awatnutu, being 1 the amount of subsidy for the halfyear ending 31st December, 1878, less £118, deducted as this County's share of contribution towards the support of bhe Auckland Hospital. It was the opinion of the Council that as the great distance from Auckland prevented residents m this and adjacent Counties from taking much advantage of the medical skill to be obtained "there, it was highly desirable that steps should bs taken for the establishment of an institution of this kind m some central place m the Waikato. After some discussion it waa resolved on the motion of Cr. Hadfield, seconded by Cr. Buttle that the Cleric should write to the Councils of the Counties Waikato, Piako and Raglan, also to the Hamilton Borough Council asking if they would co-opsrate with Waipa m establishing an Hospital m some place to be determined on. BY-LAWS. It was proposed by Cr, Hadfield, seconded by Cr. Reynolds that Crs. Steele, Buttle and the Chairman form a committee at next ordinary meeting of the Council for the purpose of drafting by-laws for regulation of meeting, &c. OFFICE SITE. It having been stated that Mr Edwards had offered to give a piece of land for a site for an office for the Council provided they continued to hold their meetings at Ohanpo. Cr. Buttle proposed that Mr Germann should obtain a written promise from Mr Edwards to that effect. LICENSE FEES. On tho motion of Cr. Hadfield, the Cleik was instructed to communicate with the Colonial Secretary asking that all auctioneers',public house and steamer licenses collected m Waipa, be paid to the credit of the County Fund. '

FINES. The Clerk was also ordered to write to the Clerics of the R.M. PUKBRIMU iELKCTIOiS". • No nomination having been made for Councillors to represent this Riding on the day fixed for the ordinary election, a notice of "an extraordinary vacancy was made m acsordance with clause -iv of the" Local Elections AcV and Mr Fitzgerald, the Returrii'hor Officer' now claimed I'ov. two elections, .the Coauoil were of opinion that no nominations having been made on the appointed day, there was m reality no election, but m consideration of the Returning officer 'having attended to receive nominations on tha*> day it was proposed by Cr Buttle " that Mr Fitzgerald 'be allowed one pound m addition to the usual remuneration for un election." The motion was seconded by Cr. Reynolds, and carried nem. con. The Clerk was authorised to write to Mi- Fitzgerald, and forward checquo for the amount . of hi* uc^ count as amended.

PASSES FCK COCiCCILLORS. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr ■ Macdonald, asking 1 that passes be issued to Ors. Oorboy and Hadfield, to travel on the {railway between Hamilton and Ohanpo, for Council meetings. The following accouuts were passed and ordeied to be paid : — Upton, stationery,: £7 13^; Wii kato Times. £3 13s 6d ; freight, R.R.,.-3j; Fitzgerald. Returning Officer for Pukerimu, £5 33; and Fitzpatrick, Returning Officer for' Newcastle, £7 2s Gel. OItDINARV MEETINGS. . Cr. Buttle gave notice that at next meeting of Council he would propose that an alteration be made m the day of holding the ordinary meeting ot the Council, it bein* inconvenient that they should be held on market days.
