Cricket —Married v. Single.
The return crioket match, Married v. Single, was playei here on the Government paddnck, ou .Saturday lust. The wickets were pitched at 12.30 p.m., and the tSingle Men having won the toss, sent the Hurried to the wickets. The bow. ling of Jones and Stubbing, for the Single Men, was very good, and in the second innings Sponsr bowled for two qv three overs remarkably well;
in the second over he took three wickets. For the married side the bowlers were, Mackintosh, Parr, Dalton, a&d on both sj4e3 weak, but the fielding was the Married-l|len 'made 42 <the SinglefMen &4. In the innings, .-i4'2 runs was again the; score |of :sbhe Married Men. When the bachelors therefore took their second-£urh at the wicketsj the odds were very much in their favor,.as tjiey. wanted only 33 runs to wh, and 32 to tie. Considerable excitement was called forth by. the Single Men's ninth wicket falling for- 24 runs. Douglas was batting very steadily, and it was seen that if Renton the last man, made any stand, the Single Men would, make the 9 runs necessary to win. Ronton contributed 3 towards them by a well-hit ball to leg. A maiden over was then I bowled by Parr, and then Douglas made a good hit to long off,' for .;.. ;; which two runs were.scored. Two singles were then made by Renton. But a well bowled ball by Mackintosh, Douglasfailed to keep down, and Point held ifc. The Single Men therefore lost by one run. . .
