m each of the , nine Provincial Districts aud Ohatam Islands : —
There are seven unoccupied and un-l cultivated holdings m Auckland of from ' 5000 to 10,000 acres each, two m Wellington, and two m Canterbury. There is also m Canterbury one unoccupied holding of 1-1,000 acres, and o*ue m Otago of 22,800 acres. The total number of occupied holdings (including Crown pastoral lands) m the several Provincial Districts aro 26,200, made up as follows : — Over 1 acre to 10 acres, 6,064 holdings ; 10 to 60 acres, 5,G80 holdings ; 50 to 100 acres, 3,937 holdings; 100 to 200 acres, •1,339 holdings ; 200 to 320 acres, 2,038 holdings ; 320 to 6-10 acres, 1,883 holdings ; 640 to 1,000 acres, 697 holdings ; 1,000 to 5,000 acres, 898 holding.. ; 5,000 to 10,000 acres, 172 holdings; 10,000 to 20,000 acres, 180 holdings ; 20,000 to ;30,000 acres, 201 holdings; 50,000 to 100,000 acres, 86 holdings; ahd upwards of 100,000 acres, 26 holdings. Tho total number. of holdings m each Provincial District is — Aucklaud, (5,565 ; Taranaki, 1,018; Wellington, 3,115 ; Hawke's Bay, 947 ;. Marlborough, 687 *, Nelson, 1,792 ; Westland,427 ; Canterbury, 6,388 ; Otago, (3,260. The total area of occupied holdings m the eoleny, including Chatham Islands, is. — Freehold, 8,869,547 acres ; leasehold, including Crown land rented jor other than pastoral purposes, 3,709.525 acres ; Crown land rented for pastoral purposes only, 12,690,074. The twtal area of land broken up,- but not under crop, is 253,742 acres, and the land under crop aggregates 651,638 acros. The following table' shows the acreage under crop of the principal products, such as wheat, oats, &v., iv the chief Provincial Districts : —
The attached tabic shews the number of horses, cattle, sheep, and pigs m the colony, and gives the total number of live stock of all descriptions, exclusive of poultry: —
The total number of all descriptions of poultry m the colony is 1,323 ,0-12, and the total number of goats is 14,243. Tho quantity of butter made m the colony during the year was 7,379,4471b5., and cheese— 2,7ol, 9oßlbs. At fche time of taking fche census, there were m the colony 985 threshing machines, *1,829 reaping machines (Canterbury alone possessing 2,330, and Ofcago 1,720). Tho quantity of grain aud flour on hand was— Wheat, 1,72(i,.)*;)4 bushels; oats, 1,892.(551 bushels; barley, 248,029 bushels; and flour, *3,2Gl bags. — 'New Zealand Herald,' Nov. 18th.
