Correspondence.

Sis,—As I chanced to notice a letter in your issue of the' 7th inst. re the "illegal" proceeding of local Boards, may I be allowed to ask the wiseacre who signs himself "a ratepayer," where he has discovered it to be necessary to waste more of the public mone on advertisements in the 'N. Z. Herald.' The present Boards may not be quite so green or neglectful as represented.—l am, &c, AnoTHBE RaTKPAYEB. THE REVIEW AND RACES. Sir,—Seeing that the review and races are to be held at Ohaupo, on Nov. 29th, I hope the party that has to peg out the ground for the review, will please to give the Troop a little more ground to work in than was given them last year, for a Troop might as well have tried to wheel in a stockyard as in the paltry place that was pegged off on that occasion. I think, also, that it would have been better if no entrance money had been charged at the gate, considering that the Troopers get in free, also ladies and children. I think, for all the profit the Club will make, it would be better to let in all free of charge. Our Waikato Turf Club should be able to afford to be generous for once in a time. I should also like to see a Maiden Plate added to the programme, for Troop horses only, for I know that several members of the Te Awamutu Troop subscribed, on the understanding that Mr Rutherford would try and get one added to the race list. I am if such was done, there would be four or more entries from the Te Awamutu Troop alone. I am also certain that if all the Troop races were made post entries, there would be double the number of horses *~" run at the meeting.—l am, &c, Crushbb No. 2. I [Our Correspondent will see, by the race advertisement, that a maiden race has been added to the programme.—Ed. W.T.] °
