Speaking of tho Show, yesterday's ' Horald' says:—" A very large number of entries Avero received yesterday, and the exhibition is one that is not only likely to prove a legitimate success, but is expected to be one of Avhinh every resident in tho district may feel proud. Including horses, eattlo, sheep, swine, dairy produce, poultry, pigoons, dogs, farming implements, avool, and local manufactures and produce, there are no fewer than 302 elates for which first and second prizes are offered. There aro also 4-1 classes for plants, flowers, nnd vegetables, so that there will be variety to suit every taste. 'J ho best possible arrangements are being mado to carry programme to a successful isfcuo. No pains have been spared in securing the services of the most competent judges, and rules have been druwn up, Avhioh, if rigidly enforced, will prevent any misunderstanding. The exhibition is looked forward to already with a groat doai of interest, and it is expected that it will bo yisited by many gentlemen from tho South and from the Australian colonies. The wonderful success achieved by our local breeders of cattle, sheep, and other stock has attracted the attention of those residing in the neighbouring colonies, and we look forward to an attendance at the sliow and a quality of exhibits Avhich will do credit to the colony." At the meeting of the Wast Lands Board, held on '1 hursday, an application from Te Awamutu, asking for a site for a Public Hall, Avas considered. The sito applied for had been set apart for a Volunteer hull, but the Board saw no reason why-both should not bo combined, j and it was agreed to recommend that tho application should be granted.

L.O.L.—Tho election of bfficprs in the • Sons of Ulster' and ' William Johnson' Lo.lgcs takes placo next week—in Ihe former on tho evening of the 7th. and in the latter on that of the Bth instant. ' On Thurday morning, tho sporting dogs of Hamilton again visited Mr Jolly's ilock, in the paddocks near the Railway Station, but were seen before much damage was done, having made a bag of only one lamb, and more or less wounded some of the ewes. We are informed that, on the previous day, a child .with some little trouble, rescued from the attao'c of three ferocious dogs, in the main street of West Hamilton.

Mr A. HorE, at the Hamilton Railway station, is advertising for a few good men for swamp work, and applications are beginning to be niado for shearers. Throughout the entire Waikato labour is in demand, both for roadworks in nearly every district, and the usual farm work of tho settlers, which is annually increasing. Mr J. C. Firth is advertising for tenders for ploughing and harrowing 2,000 acres, of laud at Mata/tnata. ♦The work will be let in contractspf not less than 230 acres, and must be commenced by' the first oi' December next, and finished riot later than the last day of next February. This work alone will employ a considerable number of hands, even though double ploughs aro used.

CaHBRIDQB Farmers' , Club. The Annual Meeting of the abovn Club will be held on Monday afternoon next, at half-past three o'clock, to receive a report and statement of accounts for. the past year. The late Cattle Show Committee will meet at'2 p.m., and tho regular monthly meeting of the Club will be held on the same evening, at seven; o'clock, when a paper, on the " Classification «f Wool," will be read by Mr E. £. Walker.

Waikato ' County Elections. ~ : The nominations for the several Ridings of the Waikato County will be made on Wednesday next. We hear that Messrs li. D. H. Fer<jusson, W. Martyn, and Kirkwood are in the fiold for Cambridge, and that Messrs J. li. Whyte, P. Walker and Capt Steele, for the Kirikiriroa Riding. For the one seat for: Rangiriri, there will, be a contest, for wo hear of there being 1 already three candidates spoken of. The Borough' of Hamilton has commenced: a moat .important .work, that ot fixing the levels. .Now that permanent briok buildings of a costly oharactor are going up in the principal Btroets on either side, and the bridge over tho river is about to bo, placed, it is time that definite levels were fixed upon. At present, levels are only being taken in Victoria street, on the West side, between McGarrigle's shop and tho Commercial Hotel, and on the .East side, between the Royal Hotel and Bridge street cast. Of course, the fixing of the levels will moro or less affect contiguous properties, and the owners of such have the opportunity of appealing, should they consider themselves injured or aggrieved, at a meeting of the Borough Council, to be specially held for that purpose, on the 2nd December next. The tenders for the erection of Mr N. R. Cox's new brick store, at the corner of Victoria and Hood streets, must be sent in to the architect, Mr T. H. White, by noon of Tuesday next. We learn from Wellington, that now that the money for the extension of the railway into Hamilton has been votgd, a re-survey will be made, and .tenders for the construction fcf the work in one lot, will be at once sailed for. The Members of the Hamilton' Contingent Cavalry Volunteers will meet for Church Parade to-morrow morning. Tiie National Hotel, at ■ Cambridge, has been recently enlarged; a whole suite of bedrooms, new billiard room and parlours having been added, and the proprictor, Mr W. Walßer, is now in a position to offer accommodation second to none in tbe Auckland Provincial district. Mr AViilker is well known as keeping an excellent table, and wines and spirits that will bear comparison with any sold in the colony. ; Riding. Nominations.—The nominations for candidates to represent the Ridings of'-Newcastle, Taotaoroa and Patatero, must bo received by the re speutive returning officers by noon of to-day, and by noon of Monday for the following Ridijigs, Rangiaohia, Mangapiko, Pukekur'a, Waitoa, Mataniata and Whangape. ~:„„..
