THE PROPOSED CAMBRIDGE COUNTY.

Sir, —I see by the report in issue of the 22nd, that my fellow ratepayers in the town of Cambridge, along with the surrounding settlers, are still doing theii utmost to have the new County prool aimed. As an owner of property, to a small extent in that town, I am always glad to hear of anything being done to advance it, and it appears that we are legally entitled to what Ave ask. Still, unless the Government are prepared for continual readjustment and rearrangement of boundaries of Counties, I do not see how our request can be granted. It appears to me that it would be the signal for a general scramble—all the richer districts trying to get rid of their poorer neighbours, with their accompanying burdens —the end being that the Government would find itself saddled with districts such as Kangariri, and many up North, whom nobody would father. Judging, also, by "An Outsider's" letter, which appears in your issue of the 24th, the remnants of the three Counties ' concerned hardly approve of our measures, * and really it does appear hard upon them. However, let us persevere, and I daresay, by reason of our importunity, we may get what we want.—l am, &c, A Cambeidge Ratepayer. October 26, 1878.
