CATTLE SHOW.
Mr Cliirko proposed that the members of the (Jlnl) takiug prkos at the forthcoming- Show be asked to refund half their prize money for the benefit of thu funds of tho Club. He had attempted to move this resolution ut the last meeting bill was ruled out of order. He brought forward the lesohitiou as some members Lad suid they would do this if tJhd c*Lt.;
would do likewise, and so it was thought if a rosolution was passed by the Club it Would be something to go by. Captain Walm-lcy tseruiidwl -the proposition. He waa of opinion thuL it would be the means of making a fund for the erection of a proper building for future Bhowß. Mr Wi liani Martyn said ho would support the motion provided that it was only done if necessary. He thought it might not be necessary at all, but m the event of the proposition being carried, it would be made binding on all the members of the Club. Some -members may bring stock from Auckland or some other distant place, and the expense of bringing them up to the Show would be far more than the amount of prize money taken. These members could not be expected to refund half their money^. Mr Fisher saieHtttf would oppose the motion. He did nqfc see why members of the Club should only receive half their prize money when other competitors would bo paid m full. Mr Lake did not agree at all with the motion. If the Club had not enough money, give smaller prizes or certificates. He thougn. it rather peculiar to advertise prizes of suoh and such an amount, and then ask the members of the Club to take only half. Mr James Runciman said it was impossible to get even a fair number ef competitors for bare certificates. Mr William Martyn said that some time ago he had exhibited at a show, and got only certificates. Last year, he got money prizes. The money he had spent, but the certificates he had still; therefore, he valued the certificates more than the money. He would be willing, if he took any prizes, to refund half the money, but, the subscriptions having come m very liberally, he did not think it would be necessary. Mr Brooks said that, if a resolution was passed to the effect that half the prize money be refunded, and all the members were willing to do this, he did not see anything unfair about it. It need not be considered binding on those members who wished to bo paid m full. Mr Clarke's motion was then put, and carried by a small majority. NOTICE OP MOTION. Mr James Runciman gave notice that at the next meeting he would move — " That the Cattle Show for 1879 be held at Hamilton." Mr James Runciman asked when the_ accounts of the late ploughing match were to be settled. He knew some of the prize money was not yet paid, and it was, he thought, high time to settle up. Mr Buttle said he had attended at the Club on two occasions when the Ploughing Match Committee meeting was called, but there had been no other members present. However, he had made an appointment with Mr Fergusson to meet him at ten o'clock to-morrow morning (Tuesday, the Bth instant), when all accounts would be settled. The next meeting of the Club will be the annual meeting, and Major Clare and Captain Walmsley were appointed as auditors. This was all the business.
