Sib,— l fear the great quantity of cheek which, m your last Tuesday's issue, Mr Knox boasts of possessing, has led him to labor under a delusion na regards my being Chairman of the Whatawhata Highway District Board. In the first plaoe, such a Board has never existed, and, iv the next, I have never even attended a meeting of the Newcastle Hoard ; but I bog to inform him, if he alludes to the time when I was Chairman of the Hamilton Highway District Board, that there was more work done during my j'ear of office on the Hamilton end of the road than has been done before or since. In my opinion, Mr Potter should be applauded by the people for the interest lie has taken iv such matters, as it is by the country the town exists. I have been .speaking to .several members of the Municipal Council on the subject, and they all •seemed to agruo that something should be done on the road m question. I may bo pardoned for my interference m the matter when tho fact is taken into cou-.-taoratiuu that I am the heaviest sufferer, having a large family, a great deal of produce, aud no means of either ingress •n- egress.— l am, Sea., T. Kothw.ell. Whatawhata, October y, 1878. [Tlio mistake was our reporter's, m misunderstanding 1 Mr Kuox to say the Whatawhala Board instead of the Hamilton Board.— Ed W.T.]
