WAIBA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A special meeting was held at Ohaupo on Monday, 23rd instant ; present: Messrs Germann (Chairman), Hill, Hay, Mandeno, Fitzpatrick, and Fisher. In pursuance of notice given, Cr Hay moved, and Cr Hill seconded (pro forma), " That a new Riding be constituted, to be called the Tahikaramea Riding, comprising the present Hamilton Pviding and the Highway District of Tuhikararaea, and that such new Riding do return two Councillors to this Council." After some discussion, Cr Fitzpatrick proposed, and Cr Mandeno seconded, an ameadment "That the Riding of Newcastle be altered, so as to comprise the Highway District of Jlihikaramea, and that it do then return two members to the Council." Messrs Long and Hadfield, Trustees of the Tuhikaramea Highway District, were theu heard by the Council, and several questions were put to them, from wfaidiif, appeared that if their district were to be annexed to any other, they preferred it should be Hamilton, and tfiat the ceutre of their district was only 7

miles from Hamilton, while it was 18 miles from Newcastle. Mr Germann then moved, " That the Highway Pistrict of i'nhikaramea be constituted a new Riding, aud that it return one member to the Council." After considerable discussion as to the number of resident ratepayers, annual value, acreage, and rates collected, Mr Fitzpatrick withdrew his amendment m favor of Mr Germann's. The amendment was put first. For the Amendment : Councillors Hill, Mandeno, Fitzpatrick, Fisher and Germann. Against : Councillor Hay. The Chairman declared the amendment carried. The ordinary meeting of the Council was then held, but the business was of little public interest, fur ther than that the Council agreed to offer the banking account to the Bank of New Zealand on terms similar to those the Waikato Council had obtained.
