' ; In answer to- a. letter from the Chairman • of ; ..the Ngahinapouri Board, : the -dßsoo' paid into, ithe Borough fundk by mistake was ordered to be' tefuudedi ■ The Mayor stated that, when m town, he selected 70 acres within the Bproujrh/as, anantra, mural endowment. Many allotments required for railway purposes, had been reserved for natives, „ A number of small accounts were received, arid' referred < to ih& East and West.VYprks Committees. The 'Mayor drew attention to Friday's proposed meeting of Hamilton East ratepayers', "remarking that the money was the property of the ' : -Borough, and, expressing his surprise 1 that such action was being taken. • He read the financial statement of ' East and West sides, when the Borough was formed, showing the East came m with a debt of £88 5a , Bd, while the Hamilton West Board brought a, credit balance to the common account of .£371 6s 6d. He thought it a mistake for the East Hamilton ratepayers to attempt to 1 adjudicate m the expenditure of the ! Wai kato, County funds, coming to the Borough. The Mayor then moved a resolution, protesting against any county interference. Cr. Hume thought the action proposed was premature, as the intention of the meeting called appeared simply to be to make sug- , gestions. Cr. Potter challenged the correct- , ness of the Mayor's financial statements of the two Town Boards. , Cr, Gwynne seconded the motion. Cr Hume proposed and Cr- Dawson seconded, " That no action be taken by the Council m the matter." —Amendment carried. On the motion of CiV Potter, seconded by Gr. Dawson, it was ordered that the Mayor leave all documents, telegrams, &c, sent to the Mayor or Council with the clerk . for public: reference. Or. Potter asked what instructions i had been given to the Council's engineer with re3pect to making the . map and taking , the levels pf the borough. The Mayor stated he gave Mr Breakell instructions. He had spoken to him on several occasions, but nothing had been done. The fact was Mr Breakell was too busy to attend to them. Cr. Potter asked whether the instructions were on record 'I The Mayor replied they were not. He had given Mr Breakell instructions m presence of Cr Gaudin. A statement of expenditure and income of the Council, with a statement of how the money had been paid and to whom, was on the motion of Cr Potter promised by next meeting. On the motion of Cr. Potter, it was resolved t that the wages be paid to the men earning them, and not on orders to other persons. Cr. Potter moved that the thanks of the Council be given to Mr Whitaker, as their agent m Wellington, for the very able manner m which their interests had been advanced by him. The motion was carried unanimously, as was also the resolution proposed by the Mayor, that Mr McMinn ba written to, thanking him for his co-operation with Mr Whitaker.
