TAMAHERE HIGHWAY BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Royal Hotel, Hamilton. East, on Wednesday last, the 12th inst. The whole of the -Cxustees were present, viz , Messrs Heiiry Reynolds (Chairman), J. A. Douglas, E^Leslie, Jas. Runciinan and C. C. W00d. ., The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr Wm. Reid, reporting that the Mangaone Bridge and immediate approaches would be finished m a fortnight. A sum of £'lo was orderd to be paid on account, upon receipt of the Engineer's certificate. Mr Win. Breakall was appointed Engineer, and James McPherson, Secretary and Colloctor to the Board. I Mr Breakall was instructed to prepare J plans and specifications for the reduction of the gradient of the east or Tainahere approach to the Mangaone Bridge, as well as for three bridges and necessary approaches required to open np the Tama-here-Tauwhure road. Tenders to be called for as soon as they are ready. It was unanimously resolved to stop a lai-ge extent of unnecessary roads m the districts, particulars to be advertised when plans and description have been prepared by the Engineer. Captain Runciman moved, and Mr Douglas deconded as motion, " That the Board immediately call for tenders to plough the road '2{ miles m length and one chain wide, from Douglas to Tinne's gate, the intentions being to harrow and sow it with grass m good season. Mr Douglass undertook to sow one portion of it, and Captain Ruucimau another, free of cost. The Chairman (Mr Reynolds) promised, on behalf of the Piako Laud Association, to plough up a portion of the Hamilton — Piako road from the Kirikiriroa boundary line to the station gate, preparatory to being properly formed by contract. Mr Reynolds submitted a plan, showing a new line of road m continuation of the above. It forms a certain point, a convenient junction with the Cambridge Piako road and then over dry and level country to Morriusville, the present route being over very hilly ground, m fact impracticable. On the score of expense, the proposed new route was unanimously approved, the only difficulty being the question of way and means. Mr Leslie reported that a sum of £77 had been appropriated by the Waikato Caunty Council to the Piako road, and it was estimated that the work could be done for something under £200, and as the Cambridge riding had liberally contributed to this road m their direction, it would not be unreasonable to ask Councillors White and Claude to contribute £100 more from the funds due to the Kirikiriroa riding by the Council. It was unaui. mously resolved that this should be done. On the motion of Mr Leslie, seconded by Mr C. C. Wood, it was resolved to appropriate to the Tamahere road (as far as it will go) the sum of £96, share of the £40,000 grant given to Tamahere, and that the usual monthly meetings of the Board be held at Hamilton East on the second Wednesday m each month, at 2 o'clock p.m. It was suggested that it would be convenient if the Board could meet m the Council Chamber. Councillor Leslie said he did not think there would be any objection, but lie would ask the qT&wstion at the next meeting of the Council. The soveral roads m the district were divided among the trustees for general supervision and management, and the proceedingr. terminated.
