THE PAKURANGA HOUNDS.

THE MEET ON SATURDAY.

On Saturday the hounds met at the National Hotel, Cambridge, at 3 p.m. About a huudred horsemen came to the front, together with a few ladies, two of whom we could mention took the fences gamely,

The hounds cast off at the back of the lake close to the township, where two hares were started, but were soon lost in cover. After a short time, however, one was again turned out, and made a good run through some fenced allotments, over the ditches with wattling on top, till the h%re was fiually run down and killed at a clump of ti-tree, close to the town belt. There was several spills during the run, but no one was hurt.

The hounds cast of again in Mr Brown's paddocks, where a hare was soon driven out of cover, »,nd made a good run, over wattle fences, double ditches, and banks, and thorn hedges. At one doube ditch and bank, no less than nine riders came to grief, however, none were hurt, and all remounted and followed the hounds, which, were now close upon the hare, having rnn through the farm of Mr Lamb, and crossed the road into the paddocks of Mr Taylor. The hare then turned out of the paddocks, the hounds were close upon her by a flax swpmp, she doubled however, just a few yards off the formost hound, and was somehow or other lost in cover. The hounds then returned to Camb.idge, and left for Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.— Own Coeeespondent.
