HARAPEPE.
August 2. The annual meeting ot the ratepayers of the Parongia Highway District, was held in the schoolhouse, on Saturday last, the 27th July at 2 p.ni. Mr A. S. Sherret wp voted to the chair. The Chairman having read the advertisement call the meeting, the minutes of the last were read and confirmed. The Chairman then read over the accounts of the past year, which were passed.
The election of Trustees for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, and the following ratepayers were then elected by ballot: —Messrs J. Hodgison, J. Sberret, D. Finlayson, E. G, McMinn, J. H. Thompson. Auditors :Mr W. Livingston, Mr ; D v Rolo. Pence-viewers: Messrs H. Southee. and John Morrisson-
A vote of thanks was given by the meeting to 'Mr Jas. Sherret for his services aa Trustee and Collector, and also a vote of thanks to the late Board.
Mr J. H. Thompson returned thanks on behalf of the Board, and said that they had tried to,do their best, but that it w*»s well known that it' was not possible to please every one, and no doubt they h?d not done so. When they went into office, they had found the Board in almost a bankrupt state, also all the roads ®ut of repair. They had done all the work required during the fast year, and left the Board with a handsome balance.
The. subject of ;the spending of £944 10s 9d grant, from the grant to the Counties, was then discussed, and the general wish of the ratepayers present was, that it be spent on a bridge over the Waipa. This concluded the business of the annual meeting. A meeting of the new Board was held after the above, at which Mr J. H. Torapsdu was elected Chairman of Trustees, arid Mr James Sherret, .Treasurer. Tenders were opened for the leasing of the Te Bore ferry. Two applications were received from Messrs W. B. Kelly, and W. Chesteiy Mr Kelly being the lowest tender, £5, was accepted; the other was £l3, The Board decided to bank the Government grant, as a beginning for the Bridge Fund, , We have been getting some very rough weather of late, wind, rain, arid hail; arid the tbps bf ; tne Pirongia ranges have several times been capped with snow.
