MANGAPIKO.

August Brd. The annual meeting of ratepayers of tlie above district was held on Saturday, the 27th of July in the schoolhouse, Paterangi, at 2 p.ra. Mr W. Mackay being in the chair. After a rather free and easy discussion upon nature of the various Acts, in force with: regard to Highway matters, the business of the meeting commenced by the reading of the annual statement by the Secretary as follows ,: EEOEirrs.

The accounts were duly declared passed as read. The folio wing gentleoien were then nominated as Trustees with the accompanying T result-.-—Messrs J. H. Scott, 67 •. A. Legerwcod, 61; W. Jones, 55 ; W. Hume, 47; J. Ryburn, 45; IF. Roche, .31; W. Higgimson, 24 ; S. Trobe, 12. The first five were accordingly declared duly elected. Messrs A J. Scott and H. Roche were appointed Auditors, aud Messrs J. Webb and D. Mann fence viewers for the enduing year. On the proposal of Mr Higginson, supported by Mr Basanko the incoming : Board were requested to obtain legal opmiou ua to the qualification .of. ratepayers. A vo':e of thanks to the retiring Trustees aud the: Chair, concluded this meeting.

held with Mr Mackay 'replaced in. the chair to consider the advisability of rejecting the "Counties Act," and a resolution was duly carried, '< That the councillors of the Maugapiko Riding be relieved o£ their pledge to resist the bringing into force of the " Counties Act."
