ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY— CAMBRIDCE BRANCH.

I The quarterly meeting was held at the National Hote l , Cambridge, on Friday evening last. Present: Messrs James Runeinian (secretary), Gr. E. Clark, Robt. Kirkwood, John Martyn, John. Shaw, J. A ll will, John Ruuciman, Majors Clare and Hay. Major Clare was voted to the chair. The Secretary then read the letter he had written to the parent society with regard to hares, and the names of the gentlemen forming the deputation to the Colonial Secretary, who said hares were not numerous, and did no damage. Mr llunoiman had. had only received a note, acknowledging the receipt of his letter, but no other reply. He had not pre.pared a report, as there was nothing to report upon. But he had received a letter from Mr H. M. Brunei 1 , Secretary of the Whangainri Acclimatisation Society, stating that he woidd give £00 for 50 hares of mixed sexes, placed upon a steamer at the Mauukaii, to be forwarded to Whangantii. Major Clare thought he was trying to take a rise out of them. It was, nevertheles, agreed to forward

the letter to Mr Cheeseman, the Secretary of the Parent Society. | Some accounts were then passed, and ! the Secretary was directed to deduct the '. amount of liabilities for incidental ' expenses, viz., £20 0s 4d when remitting : to Auckland the next subscriptions that come to hand. The Secretary stated that there were eighteen members who had not paid their subscriptions, and he urged the committee to try to collect them as soon as possible. He, himself, was unable to give his time to go and collect them. . This was all the business.
