Mr Smith proposed and Mr Clark seconded, that tho report au 1 * balance-sheet as read be adopted. Carried. Mr l (l oiTist asked what amount woulil be coming 1 to tho Board out of the £40,000 giant? Other Highway Bjaivls had a large sum to start with : Pakekura and Taotao-*""*" roa, the later had nearly £400. Mr Clark said that £700 will be expended m Cambridge Riding. The Town Board were to get som3thing out of this, but.it was left by the Council to himself and colleague as to how it should be expended. The money would be spent by the Highway Board, but on what works was left to the discretion of himself and Mr Kirkwood, as representing the County Council m the district. Mr JSelby thought it a great deal of power to place m the hands of two men. Mr Chirk said they might rest assured that il wonll be spent m a way most advautagioas to the district, it was notf&r his own benefit that he acted as a County Councillor, if lie had consulted his own. feelings m the matter he would not have entered the Council Chambers again after the way iv which he had been treated. The Chairman reminded the meeting that the business before them was not to question Mr Clark on hia action as a County Councillor but to elect trustees for the ensuing year. The following gentlemen were accordingly proposed : — Messrs Jas. Runciman, T. 8. Graham, A, Favgxxason, J. All will, Wm. Martyu, Chapman Ewen, W. Selby, A. A, Fanthanv On a ballot being taken. Messrs Jas. Runciman T. S. Giaham, J. Allwell Wm. Martyn, and Chapman Ewen, were elected. Messrs James Hally and Robert Kirkwood were elected auditors ; and Messrs J. and H. Fergusson fenceviewers. After a vote of thanks to the ontgoing Trustees and to the Chaiitpan, tjie meetiu^ dispersed. -
