THE PAKURANGA HOUNDS.

In our last issue we announcad that the Pakurangi hounds were about to visit the Waikato, hares being somewhat' plentiful in several parts of-the" district. We are now in a position to; state that the first meeting in Waikato will take piaceoa the 7th of August, at Cambridge. Mr J. S. Buckland, to whose exertions the Waikato sporting public owe the carrying out of tin- arrange merits which has led to the introduction of this good old spoH into the district, has received the following letter:— ■''

Dear Buukland,—The Hunt Club have agreed that the hounds shall leave here for the* Waikato on Monday, sth August, returning on Ihursday, the loth. Let me know if-this will suit you.; 'the Club: have, passed a resolution, fixing; our races : and dinner on Wednesday, the 2nd Oct., and have agreed that Waikato horses attending two meets, whilst in. your district, shall be qualified to run. Trusting this will meet with the approval of the Waikato sportsmen—l have, &«., Wh Pekcival, Sec. P. H. Club. Auckland, 20th July, 1878.

The first meet, as we have said, will take place at C imbridge on the 7th proximo, next Wednesday week, when, for the first time, Waikato fields will echo to the music of thirteen couples of harriers, which is the nvmber of the pack that Joe Roberts intends to bring up with him. That there will be a large field, should the weather be at all suitable, we make no doubt, for many who will not, perhaps,, take part in the chase itself will, from old associations and love of -sport, be found at the meet, or taking up vantage ground to see what can be seen of the run. Due uotice at an early date will doubtless be given of the other meets

The resolution passed by the Club arid referred to in the letter above, will also interest many of our readers, who will, doubtless, qualify - their horses for the Pakarangi Hunt Club Races. The offer is a liberal one, and the readiness with which the Club has fallen into an arrangement, which will afford the Waikato people a week or. ten day's hunting season, during this winter, will be duly appreciated by one and all in the district.
