His Honor considered that the evidence wa3 sufficient for the ruling of the case. The only question is, was knowledge necessary ? Mr Hesketh then proceeded to argue upon this question, and show that defendant had no knowledge of infection, Ho said that sdction twenty-uiue showed clearly that unless the owner had knowledge of the mixing of his sheep with scabby sheep he was not guilty. His Honor said the owner was bound to have that actual knowledge. At any rate he was liable. Application for appeal was dismissed. WELLINGTON, Tuesday. At tbe Magistrates' Court to-day, several 'merchants were summoned for keeping kerosene for sale without marking the same dangerous. All the cases were dismissed with a caution. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. .Further particulars regarding the murder at Oxford show that the deceased woman had excited her husband's jealousy by being too friendly with a man named Barrett, who lodged with them. Hoff complains that the infidelity of his wife was very notorious m the Oxford district. Barrett left the house early on the morning of the murder, but it is uot known whether any quarrel occurred previously.
