WHATA WHATA.

June 10. A humour is going the rounds, and nob an unlikely one either, that the grant of some .£SOO, recently given by the Premier towards forming a road between Tuhikaramea and tha Hamilton Station, was the result of a mistaice — ; tbe money being really intended by the Premier co form the much-needed road Irom Whatawhata to the Station. This seems probable, as Sir George Grey would scarcely be so prompt m assisting the Tuhikaramea sectiers, and at the same time entirely ignore the claim of Whatawhata, with tbrice the population and no road whatever to the Station, In any casp, it proves that the veter^u ' Hadfield, of Tuhikaramea, is rather too much for us m road matters — from our Road Board Chairman — — well, down to your correspondent. If^ however, the mistake has been made, and the money, as it were, diverted from its proper channel, it will not by any means pr >ye a total loss to Whatawhata. The nearest, and which ultimately must be the main line from our township to the Hamilton Station will run from our ferry m almost a straight line to Cox's Swamp; thence, passing bet ween the Koumatua creek, and the large swamp known as Fox and Foxalls. At Coxa swamp ifc will come out upon the road now being constructed by the Tnhikaramcit Board, and from thence to the station about a mile. We shall m common with the Tuhikararaeans receive the benefit of the £500. It only remains for oar local representatives to bestir themselves, and apply for a similar grant so that the short line from WhdtaWhata to the junction may be finished about the same time that the main Tuhikaramea line will be, and that, after the energy displayed may be expected before very long.— Correspondent.
