THE NATIVE MEETING

PvEWI WITH NGATIMANIAPOTO DO NOT ATTEND.

(From our own Correspondent.) Tuesday 2 p.m. Siii G. Ghkv and the Hon. Mr Shoe'ian have arrived here ascortod by some 150 horsemen, and the same number ou foot. They were received with cheers and a war dance, Tuwhiao leading them. There was an immense crowd of natives assembled, hardly, indeed, to be numbered the ground being so uneven. After the war dance had come to an eudi the King paid his respects to tho Ministers at the head of his men. Tents are now being pitched, and Tawhino is m conversation with Sir G. Grey. It is not likely that Ihei'e will be any talking loWednesday, 8 a.m. No " panuitangi " is out yet for the days proceedings. The Hauhaus are wishing for the Kupapas challenge for a war dance. After the tents were pitched yesterday bullocks and pigs and other food was presented to Sir G. Grey and Mr Sheehan. The Rev. Tarawhiti held divine service m front of the Government camp, all the Europeans aud Kupapas attending. Rewi and all theNgatimainapotos are absent at their own settlements. 8 p.m. This has been apparently a lost day, no discussion having taken place between the Government aud party and Tuwhiao. A lot of native food, inamnka and para, has been presented to the visHors with the usual noise aud ceremony. Tawhiao has been m deep consul' r-.tion with Manuhiri and other chiefs. Hauhauru is the only JSTgatimania^oto Chief present.
