RESIDENT MAGISTRATES' COURT.
Hamilton, 4th. May, 1878. Before I. R. Vialou, E.sti. JT. Mayor. John Knott Makin was charged with larceny as a bailee. tSoi'goant MoQovern stated that (he offence was committed m Auckland m the month of December hist and that a warraut at the time was issued for the prisoner's apprehension but he (Makin) carefully evaded the police un to yesterday, when Constable Gillies met him at Orakau and from the description giveu at once recognised and arrested him. The Sisruoiint would ask that the prisoner be remanded to Auckland whero the offence was committed. Remanded accordingly. (Before AY. N. Searauoke, Esq. R.M.) Hamilton, May G, 187 S. DRUNKENNESS. Itobert Murpby pleaded guilty to the above offence and was fined 53 and ooats, m. default 21 hours imprisonment, The same prisoner was charged with disorderly behaviour m a public place whereby a breach of the peace had been occasioned. The prisoner also pleaded gutfty to this charge. Sergeant McGrOveru stated the circumstances and said it was the prisoner's first appearance, and that the police did not wish to press for a heavy penalty. The prisoner sepinel very penitent, anc{ no doubt it would be a lessou to him. His Worship said after the Sergeant's remarks m favonr of the prisoner he would merely inflict the mitigated penalty of 10.* and cosls, m default -18 hours' imprisonment.
