THE BRIDGE SITE.
Sin, — As some rather slighhng aud sneering remarks were made by one or two persons at the Victoria Hall last nightsuch as who called this meeting, are they afraid or ashamed to acknowledge it— l beg to say, for their and the public satisfaction, that I was one of several others who endeavoured to get a number of th3 Burgusso3 of Hamilton together, aud that I am neither afraid or ashamed of the part I took in it. lam dissapoiuted that there should have 1/feen such supiueness shown in so important a subject. I presume you and all right thinking men will agree with me that there wa 3 nothing to he ashamed or afraid of when I tell you the resolution I had to propose was as follows : " That this meeting having reason to fear that steps arc about to be taken hj tho Council to fix the site of the bridge contrary to the wishes of the ratepayers, as expressed at the meeting held in the Court House on the 18th tilt., respectfully request the Council not to do anything to contravene the voi)e of the ratepayers Without showing caiiso why, and consulting the said ratepayers on the subject " And the only other resolution to be brought forward that I knew anything of was, " That this meeting respectfully I'equest the Council before fixing the site of tho bridge to cause an estimate to be made of tho difference in the cost of erecting the bridge, and constructing approaches at or near the present ferry crossing, and one higher up river, opposite Webber's." By kindly, inserting this in your valuable paper you will oblige yours, (fee., T. Treaviiekllar,. Hamilton, April 30th, 1878.
