PUKEKURA HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

A public meeting of the ratepayers wus •■ held m the Pukeritnu school, on the 10th April, to receive the statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ending 30fch March, 1878. A majority of the ratepayers being present, the chairman, Mr Lake read the advertisement calling the meeting. Also, the clauses of the Highways Act, relating to the election of chairman. Mr D. Caley senior, was voted ; into the chair. Mr, Caley then called on the secretary to read the statement of moneys received aad expended during the year. Receipts : — By balance m Bank, July 1, 1877, £88 lfe 4d: rates collected to March 30, 1877, £397 16s 4d; dog collars, £11 ss; amount received from the Government as subsidy, £405 10s ; subsidy Waipa County Fund, £168 7s 2d. Total, £1,071 14s 10d.— Expenditure :— Bridges and culverts, £99 6s 6d ; other works and sundry expenditure, £435- 8s 8d ; by balance m Bank, £536 l'Js'Jd. — Examined and found correct. — Signed : S. Fieinin»\ , J. Gane, Auditors. It was agreed that the accounts as read be received and adopted. The opinion of the ratepayers was taken as to the amount of rates to be levied for the ensuing ye,ar. 'It was proposed and seconded that a rate of Gd m the £be made. An amendment was then proposed 'That the rate be 9d m the £. for. .the year ending 31st ' March, 187-9. The amendment was carried. To a proposal that the late Trustees had given general satisfaction and that they bo re-lectecl. £au "amendment was proposed aud carried that the Trustees be elected m the usual form. Scrutineers having been appointed, the following gentlemen were duly nominated as Trus'ees, namely, Messrs Lake, Hicks, Howie, Tucker, IV O'Neil, E. B. Walker, William Reynolds, and Joseph Gane. On the ballot being taken, the following was the result :— Mr Lake 05, Mr Hicks, 04, Mr E. B. Walker, 70, Mr J. Gave, 74, Mr W. Reynolds, GO, Mr Howie 25, Mr Tucker 28, F. O'Neill 23. The chairman declared the first live elected. Mr J. Fisher, and Mr Arch. Wallace were appointed Auditors for the yoar, and Messrs Fleming and Atkinson, fence viewers. A vote of thanks was heartily given to the late Board, and another to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close without a hitch. PUKERIJIU' HIGHWAY BOAIID At a meeting- of the Trustees of the above Board, held after the public meeting, it was proposed and seconded, that Mr E. Lake be re-elected chairman, and carried.
