THOSE SELFISH MEN.
Dear Mr Editor, —I feel sure you will publish this small letter. As you obliged Clara Vere de Vere you cannot possibly refuse me. Now, I am of just the same opinion as many others of my sex. Please confess —is not a banquet a most selfish arrangement when Ave poor, harmless little creatures are left out in the cold! Just fancy, dear Mr Editor, being in company with a " real"—" live " Marquis!! The mere thought makes me dance or jump with joy. Then, again, I might not even have the honor of being in the same set! But I will be content to rub xvp against his coat tails, so, you see, I am not veiy ambitious in that respect. Do, like a dear old man, use your most winning, persuasive, and other powers to get our darling old Mayor to give us a hop on this occasion. Trusting this will meet with your earliest attention and approbation, I remain, yours, right ti'uly,
UiQAiiExrE db Daoobebt.—P.S.: Taking up the thread of dear Clara'd letter, should there not be muMc forthcoming, Florry, Maud, Evangeline, and your humble servant, will take turn about at the piano ■while the others dance.—Yours (onco more), 0. de D.
