NATIVE FRACAS.

The Ohinemuri correspondent of the Grahamsiown ' Star,' writing ttom Paeioa on Wednesday says : — > ' There was a tremendous shindy up at Te &roha on Monday. One of Mokena's sons?, named Akuhata, proposed to erect a seven-roomed house ou land which he claims at the Hot Springs. A pant load of timber, which was being towed up oy the steam launch Riroriro, was detained at Paharakeke. Akuhata went down to bring it along, when a number of oppositionists came on ihe scene, and the row which followed beggars description. Some of the timber is on its way to Turua Midi, and certain parties living m the vicinity, who are blamed for inciting the oppositionists, will have to patronise the Sash and Door Company. The principal combat was that between Akuhata and Karapuha. How the affair ended without bones being broken is hard co say, as some of the combatants used scantling and ti-tree sticks to enforce their arguments. Old Mokena had a revolver, and it is asserted that he did his bestMo fire it, but failed, owing to the caps being damaged. His party, however, deuy his having done so. The whole affair is to be left to the decision of a meeting of Natives. I understand that even the oppositionists admit that Mokena and his family have a claim to the land, although the boundary line is disputed.
