WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS.
Sib, — Certain rumours have been very industriously circulated, no doubt, for a purpose, with reference to a large amount of money voted to Cambridge Biding m comparison with Kirikiriroa, by the Waikato County Council.. . I may state, for general information, that all monies, after deducting expenses, are divided pro rata between the Ridings, according to revenue accruing from rates, licenses, &c. Cambridge having some important worki for 1 completion, for which they required full amount of subsidy, their amount was voted. The same would have been done for Kirikiriroa, had it been required. There are separate and distinct accounts kept for each Biding. Books can bo inspected, daring office hours, by any ratepayer ; but, it is more than ukely that theparties wh6 circulated the report that Kirikiriroa was allowed to be robbed* by somebody, were not particular as to ita truth, so long as it answered their purpose. I can scarcely give them oredit for
capital hoe >^en made, namely, postponing consideration of giving,, another. Councillor to Kirikiriroa, and taking one from Tamahere. Any action taken by the j Council m altering the existing state of things, could not come into force until the eleotien on second Wednesday m November. Such being the ease, Ido not see that any harm could result from de» ferring the matter until after Highway Board returns are furnished to 31st Maroh, upon which and other available Btatiatios it was. agreed to adjust the representation of Ridings.—l am, &c, W. Cuxxxh o. " '
