LATER PARTICULARS.
The tire orginated m one of the series of six single storey cells tletatched from the main building, and built of wood, used for the convenience of the more noisy female patients. In the confusion, the keys of these cells could not be fqund, and the doors were bursb open to save the inmates but m one case too late to save the unfortunate woman, Mrs Fortune, the wife of a baker at Coromandel, and sister of the Rev Father O'Reilly of that place, who was burned to death iv one of them. From these buildings the fire communicated to the main building, working its way through a window of the female compartments, m the upper story, which overlooked the half-dozon cells above referred to, airl thence spread to the woodwork of the walls and roof. The building was not insured. The damage is estimated at about £5,000.
