August 10. Our esteemed teacher, Mr P E Stevems, has recently left us for a larger field of labour. He; has taken charge of the. Mount Eden crhnol, wh'-re be will have nsnrly double the number of scholars he had here, and consequently a better salary. Mr Stevens made himself many friends here,, and his departure was regretted by parents and scholars alike. The lnttpr showed their appreciation by subscribing a sum sufficient to present him with a neat writing desk. The comnittee have engaged Mr McMillan, who opened school on Monday last. This geutleman build from New Brunswick, and posseraes a second class norma 1 certificate firm the Teachers' Training Sclioool at Fredericton in that province, ■and should therefore be a good fear her I notice that the Central Board of Education has granted £10 for a chimney for tbe Paterangi school. This is as it should be. The contractor, Mr Edwards, has now commenced the erection of the teacher's residence. The contract price is £217. The » arterial is all firstclass, and no doubt, when erected, will be an ornament to Paterangi. Several small properties have ohanged hands in this neighbourhood at fair prices. — Fbom a Corbespondknt.
