PEDIGREE STOCK.

Sir,— Having a desire, and perhaps partly through curiosity, I, the other day, paid a visit to Mr Fanthan>, with the intention of having . a look through his herd of shorthorns, and was a little surprised on inspecting them to find such an even lot of females m the district of Waikato. The two imported bulls at present used m the herd, although dolow proper working condition, are undeniable m quality, with good outline and plenty of hair soft as silk. Now, Ido not mean to say but that to a fcareless observer, or to one who does not know tbe requisite poims m a shorthorn, that Biich a person at. first sight would fall into an error m giving his opinion upon the bulls m their present condition, but from my experience, lam glad to say that m selecting the. above bulls Mr Fantham has made another step m the right direction. Time will nob allow of my going minutely into explaining my opinion 1 upon the merits of each animal separately, but a glance at their pedigrees is Bufficient|to show any person conversant m euch mutters, thut Mr Fantham's herd has been raised by many years careful and judicious breeding, and if silver cups and otl.er valuable trophies are any criterion, then indeed is the owner of the above herd rich m such honours. — lam, &o, Disinterested.
