ST PETERS' SOIREE AND CONCERT.
This reunion of the members of the Caurch; of England m Hamilton and the neighborhood came off yesterday, 1 and was , a, I brilliant' Success. The weather" was all that could be 'desired, and many zealous workers m the cause had been busy for days previous m preparing for the event. Tlie soiree /was held! m the Gymnasium, and the concert m the large; room opposite, kindly lent for the purpose by the commanding officer, and both had been tastefully decorate! with evergreens aud flags, by the members of the A. G. Force. At six o'clook, a large number; of persons, some 200 altogether, we understand, sat down-to tea at the several tables m the Gymnasium, which were covered with the good things necessary to make this part of the proceedings an agreeable one. Trays were' provided by 'the following ladies:— Mrs Calder; assisted by Miss M. Cox ; Mrs A. Cox, assisted by Miss Macpheraon ; • Mrs Jolly, Mrs C C Woods, Mrs Careys Mrs Huine; Mrs Dawson, Mi-s Lyoii, Mrsßeere, Mrs'Olaudfcr, dpn, , Mrs Vialou, Mrs Gaudin, and Mis Warren. Messdames Walker, Gwynne, Sandes, Cumming, .: : and Von . Stunner were contributors in' kind and pecuniarily. - !t • After the tea had been done ample justice to the comjjany adjonrried to the concert room and at eight punctually the performance commenced »with an overture by Mrs Calder and Miss Crawford, a very pretty Tyrrolese air, which was executed with excellent finish and taste by these ladies. The arrangements . were excellent and the programme, which was not too long a one, some seventeen pieces only, was carried out with spirit to the end. The Orpheus Glee Club were a host m themselves, though the glees " Caller Herring" and " 0 gently breathe," given by lady and gentlemen amateurs were carefully performed and well rendered as was testified by the applause of the audi-
ence. Several solos and duets were sung by ladies and gentlemen, and when %Qod Save the Qneen" played the audience dut "they separated after evid|o|ly having spent an enjoyable which will also, we thpfc, bjßfonnd to have accomplished tlfc£ work; m hand of providing a nevfc arujrefficient harmonium for the ohjjbh^ Great credit is due to Mr an&.Mrar Calder, for the excellent manner m which bath soiree and concert were got up and conducted.
