THE NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS.
Sotttherton, of the All England Eleven; m a letter to a private friend at Martdn, gives hia opinion of the best men to represent New Zealand at the intercolonial cricket contest.' He says, at such places as Taranaki, Nelson, and Grey'month, he could not find anyone to recommend, except Morae, at Greymouth, if hard' up for a lefthanded bowler. At Inirercargill there is only Reade, good at both bowling and batting. Ho thinks Crass and Anaon the only ones at Wellington who showed they were likely to hold their own on a good wicket. The best at Auckland are Robinson, Yates, and Buckland. The firot can. bat and bowl; the second is not a very stylish bat, but his resolution is likely at any time to.pull him through ; the third is a fair bowler but no bat. Du.nedin has gob bats m Dixon, Nichols, MiUington, Fulton, and Spring, the latter being the best bSst. tbe wicket-keepers he saw m tb.9 cplony were Dixon, MiUington, and Everest also being good bowlers. He has no. doubt Chriatchurch must form, the nucleus of any team, as there he found the best all-round cricketers, Corfe, Leach, and Stevens being first-class bats with plenty of others ; good bowlera too, like Frith, Sweete, and the best long-atop m Alpe. He considers them tb^e ' ' '
Club of the colony; that only 'want a better wicket to play on.
