RAGLAN.
April 10. It is fortunate that Waikato : can lobk forward , to 7 the large amount of publio iwbrks expenditure that is to take place there during/ the coming winter. V/jThere is no , one here.who begrudges you all you can 'get, but the: reading about' so many different works a'nd so 1 much;. money all at once, .reminds the, forgotten. Raglanites of the, fabler , of the fox and the grapes," when they think that a few! more shillings than the pounds you mention would enable i them to reach Whatawhata ..without haying the shoes drawn off their horses' feet going through the mud over the range ; I say nothing of the risk of losing the horse altogether in some of the boggy creeks, the bridges over which are either carried away by the late floods or have collapsed through decay. . , rNo doubt the present road is the most central: ; there are' many , worse roads than it in this provinee. What is required by this district is a good road to Waikato, a road as near juxta position to all the settlements as possible. When Raglan, becomes what it ought to be, the communication to Auckland will be via the sea to Manukau, and not as supposed by some, by Taupiri. In the meantime, a road by which any of your settlements can be reached in a day, is the best substitute it can have. Tawhiao has arrived at Kawhia, with a considerable following. Your Alexandra correspondent is slightly misinformed :., no one went to Kawhiao to await Tawhiao's arrival. , Probably both the schooner Echo and cutter Dawn may go there,, at least so say those who profess to know. Weather unsettled. Very severe southerly gale on Saturday night with squalls and rain. — [Own Correspondent.]
