WAIKATO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
The Annual Meeting of the "Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association will be held on Tuesday next, after the sale at Ohaupo, to receive the report for past year, elect officers, and decide upon the programme for the current year. The Committee Meeting will be held at 11 a.m. the same day. We trust that there will be a general muster of the Members of the Association on this occasion. An institution of this kind does much either of harm or benefit to a district, according as it is vigorously or feebly patronised and carried out by the settlers. Its Shows will either attract attention and do much to advance the district, from an agricultural point of view, m the eyes of other people, both within and without the Auckland district, or, it will stamp the Waikato district and settlers, the one as less fertile, and the other asless enterprising than they, perhaps, deserve. Agriculturally, outsiders, and very naturally so, too, will judge of us by the success, or otherwise, of our annual show j and, therefore, we do hope that leaving local jealousies of every kind behind tbem, and above all that feeling of apathetic indifference m public matters which marks too many of them, the Members of the Association will assemble on Tuesday, determined to put the affairs of the Society m train to become a credit to the district and to themselves as the promoters of the Institution. Now is the time for putting all matters m reference to the coming show on a satisfactory footing; for arranging the most fitting month for holding it, and for enabling the committee to frame their programme m time to allow intending competitors to prepare their several productions for exhibition. A great deal of dissatisfaction was expressed at last years arrangements, and to a very great extent by those who never, at the Society's meetings, assisted to put matters m a better shape. Let all such attend on Tuesday, for it is manifestly unfair, as well as useless, for people to refuse or neglect to attend the annual meeting, and then complain and grumble at what those have done, or not done, who alone took the trouble to be there.
