THE NEW POST OFFICE CAMBRIDGE.

Sir, — Even as one is surfetied wiih the best viands co the Jaudab'e economy of the Government may be carried too far. For the sake of a few paltry pounds, a building which might otherwise have been not only a convenient but an ornimenb to one of the most prominent of the Waikato settlements has been turned into a laughing stock and a reproach. I allude to the new Post Office at Cambridge. The building is of the meanest description, and will be an eyesore a long as it remains. Really, as bad as the old Post Office has become, it is a far more pleasing object than the new one, and Jin point of conveaience there is, I think, not much to chose between the two. It is a great pity the Government do 'not consult the wishes of the settlers more m these matters, instead of leaving them, entirely to the care of persons not m any way conversant with the wants of the different districts. Hamilton, and Te Awamutu, have buildings that will at least bear looking at, as buildings, apart from their usefulness, but here they have not only replaiced the little temporary office with one scarcely bigger, but as I have said, made the latter an object of remark for its unsightliness. — I am, &c, Cambidge.
