THE NEWCASTLE RIDING ELECTION.
Sir,— lt is with regret that we see Major Wilson has resigned his position as member of County Council, and for bucli a tiifling reason. As a settler of the Waipa I would ask, are we represented by the dozen electors who held the large and influential meeting m Ngsruawabia. It is not the firit time that meetings have been held m that towDsbip, and resolutions passed by, a few townspeople, which are given out as the feeling of the district- However, this is a good opportunity to read them a lesson, Major Wilson, will again become a candidate, and we would like to see the man who can beat him, whatever ticket he goes on. Major Wilson, has held office for many years, and has gained tie respect and confidence, of almost every ratepayer,* and we are not going to lose him; to please the seven free and independent electors, wno have probably a nominee m waiting. Onr member has acted 'honourably m thus resigning, and m the event of an election contest, he will [find supporters where perhaps," le least expected them.— lam, &c, S. C. E.
