THE INQUEST.

The inquest was commenced yesterday *fternoon, before W N Searaucke, Esq., and a jury of twelve. The evidence of Dv Waddington, who examiued the body, was as follows: — "I have examined the body of the deceased Samuel Morgan. There were four wounds : 1st — A clean cut wound immediately above the right ear, three and a half inche3 long, completely through the temporal bone and penetrating the brain. — Instantly fatal. 2nd A clean cub wound on the right side of the nock, cutting through the inuroles, arid dividing the external cavoiM artny, and windpipe. — Fatal, 3rd— A wound tbrea inches long across the upper third o£ the sternum or breaßfc bone, but not penetrating the cheat. — Not fatal. 4fch— Clean cut wound 4£ inches long, upon and below the angle of the right jawbone. The skua is cut through, but the wound does not pass through the muscles. The face was placid, as though the wound had been inflicted while deceased was asleep, and the first wound on the temple must have baen instantaneously fatal. The evidence of the several other witnesses was taken late last night^ and will appear in our next issue. The following statement was made by. the prisoner : — •' When we have been cooking our food together in the cook-house, Morgan used to make me fetch water, and constantly made use of bad language to me, saying 'upoko kohua,' and swearing^at me. I got very angry and killed him. We learn from a gentleman who arrived early this morning, from Ngaruawahia, that the jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against the prisoner, adding a rider in reference to the insecure Btate of the Ngaruawat -ft ttabl.
