COMPARATIVE NAVAL STRENGTH OF EUROPEAN NATIONS.

The following is a list o'the British ironclad fleet, with gun-tonnage ot the vessels : —

The Kussian irouolad navy consists of 26 ships, the lirgest of which is Peter the Great, 9 660 ton?, carrying 4 guns in two turrets. Vessels for harbour service — 9 hteam transports, 3 veasels Berving as barracks, 5 pilot boats,, and ten sailing vessels for the transport of coal. Tbe navy of Italy in 1872 was 76 sleam and sailing vessels of war, with 653 guns and 18,342 man including marines. Dt-niuark possesses a navy consisting of 33 steam vessels, mounting 291 guns, with 1,125 officers and men. The navy of Sweden consists of 37 ateamers of 3,096 -horse power and 47 guns, 14 of tbe vessels being ironclads or monitors, 8 sailing vessels, with 156 guns and 8S rowing vessels. The navy wben fully mauned, comprises about 8,000 sailors and maiines, with a reserve of 35,000 men. The navy of Norway consists of 28 vesselp. with 155 guns, 4 being monitors, besides 12 gunboats, mounting 100 guns. The royal navy of Holland consisted, on August 1, 1875, of 32 men-of war Bteamere, 28 of them ironeJais, snd 15 sailing men-of-war, with-383 guns. The navy of Portugal consists of 38 ships — many in bad condition and scarcely seaworthy — with 288 guns, manned by about 3,200 sailors. The navy of Spain consists of 120 steam vessels, of which 10 are ironclads. — " Liverpool Post."
