THE KIRIKIRIROA POSTAL SERVICE.
Sir, — It was with much plpa<mre that I rciid.a paragraph m your issue of tlia 18 h inst, referring to t'ne East Hamilton or Kirikiriroa poital arrangements, buh m some respects you are misinformed, fo.* the settlers of that district are not. even bo much favoured as you represent them t«j be. You say, for ins anoe, that " the mails brought up by steamer are sent from Wesi. to East Hamilton some time next day," and then go on to mention the inadequate salary of the Kirikiiiroa Postmaster, re-narking that the , Postal department mi*ht afford to pay a salary which would make it worth his while to Bend a man down to the steamer on arrival to receive the mail, &c, &o. Now, we are not so much favoured even as this, for no separate mail btig is made up for Kinkiriroa at the Auckland post . ffioe, Kiriktriroa being left entirely m the cold three days m the week. Should any of the East Hamilton residents be so unfortunate a* to hare letters addressed simply to Hamilton (as often happens) they are sent m the West Hamilton mail bag, and remain at that office till the coach comes up next day at 6 p m. Nor is this the worst of the business, for should any. letters so addressed be sent on coich day, they are not sent;;pver till the coach again comes up, for the mail from West to East Hamilton is s.fppo-ed to be ready for transmission by the time the coach arrive?. The West Hamilton post master has thus no time to open lm .up miils, and is umble to forward the East Hamilton portion on the same day. For example, the coach brings the mails from Auckland on Friday, and then does not bring them again till Monday, so that East Hamilton is three days behind her more fortunate sister township. Lett rs, too, posted m West for East Hamilton, take days to reaoh their destination. I trust now that you have called attention to the gross neglect of the postal aujborities at headquarters that they will see the evil remedied as soon as possible.— 1 om, &c, Samuel Thomas Seddok. Hamilton, 19th Jaouarv. 1877.
