WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

FIRST MEETING-.

The Waikato County Council met at the C >urt-house, Cambridge, at noon, on the 9th instant. Present : Councillors F R Clatide, R Kirkwood, Wtn Cummin*. J Gall, J B While, ami G- E Clarke.

Mr Clarke stated that m consequence of illness Mr Leslie wa9 unable to attend; he was sure the Council would regret his absence.

Mr Robert Kirkwood was voted to the chidr, and read notifications of place and time of meeting.

The Council then proceeded to election of chairman.

Mr Clarke proposed, and Mr Kirkwood Beconded, that Mr Claude be the chairman for the current year. — Carried.

After some discussion it was resolved that the Counties Act be brought into force, and it was decided unanimously that the office of the Council and place of meeting should be at Hamilton East.

It was resolved that the chairnmo should adveriiso for applications to fill the office of clerk and Lrcisui'cr. The

chairman was also anthO'ised' to appoint a vnluer'for Ihe nut-di*triot of Rangirri. The Chairman, 'together wi h. Councillors Cumming and J B Whyle, were appointed a oommibtee to put the ncelve.B m communication with the Government m certain, milters connected with •' the G eat South Koad.

It waa agreed, and Councillors were notified accordingly, that v sp; cial meeti»g will be hel 1 an the Town Hull, Ha. Milton East, on Wednesday, the 17th, at 2 pm, to appoint a clerk and treisurer, and to arrange dates of ordinary meetiags.

The meeting occupied about two hours, and tbe proceedings generally were conducted m perfect harmony.
