OiUlBiiiDGE, la9fc nigbt, 7 30 p.m. THE POLITICAL SITUATION. At a meeting held thia*afternoon, somo 50 persons present, the following resolutions were •.-carried. J?roposcd by Mr R.unciraan, and seconded by Mr Tnck, | that this meeting begs the Ministry not to resign betoro tho Abolition question ! has been made law, but to stand or fall upon the main .constitutional question,' which tho present liouso was elected to dispose of. i -Proposed by Mr Forrest, arid seconded by Mr It Kirkwood, that we, the residents ' of Cambridge, do heartily endorse the action of Ministers in dealing with the Piako Swamp as they have done. We believe such action has proved beneficial to JNew Zealand in general, and Waikato especially. Much settlement and improve, menb has taken place beyond such, lauds since reads liave been made.
:Te Atvamutu, Last night. iPUBLIC MEETING. At 9. meeting of electors, held here this - afternoon, Andrew Kay, Esq., in the chair, the following resolutions were proposed and carried unanimously :—lst.: — 1st. That in the-opinion of this meeting, the Ministry should not resign until the question upon which the constituencies elected thoir representatives bo definately settled, viz , the Abolition of Provinces. -2nd. That in the opinion of thia mooting', the sale of the i'fciko Swamp, the price obtained, was highly advantageous to the Government, and conducive to the interests of the whole of cho settlers in the Waikato. 3rd. That the Chairman be requested to forward proceedings, resolutions, &c, to the Government.
Alexandra, Last night. .PUBLIC MEETING. public meeting was held here ihis afternoon. Mr Aubin, Chairman of the Highway Board, presidod. The following resolutions were earned : — That in the opinion ot this meeting the Ministry should remain in office until the Abolition of Provinces has beon practically carriod into effect. 2nd. That in the opinion ot this meeting, the removal of the-W\tivc Minister, Sir Donald McLean wtuld, at the present moment, be most disastrous to the whole ot the North Island, and to this district in particular.
