CAMBRIDGE. June 14th, 1870.
Mr Collier delivered his essay on the '" Stage and Actors " hero ia the schoolroom last night. The audience may have 'been, lor aught I 'know, us cultivated as .Mr (Jollier anticipated, but eeitiin it 'is th.it it was larger. Mr Burton, the agent, informs me that their receipts for .last night were equal r to the amounts received both nights at Jianiilton. 'Cambridge "evidently appreciates the stage and its belongings more than you do at Hamilton. I fan not add anything to what has al v 7 eady been said in praise of the essay, .further than .that.it gives ono .many a peep 'into an interesting subject. A subject more interesting, becanso the world is undecided v. hether the influence ■of the stage is for good or evil. Mr Collier handles his subject as only a master -•ofhi-tnrt could, and whatever ono may, think of the Theatre itself, certainly the 'cssy dcliveicd by him can only give plea- • sure to the mot,t fastidious. They apeak highly of (Aimbridge giving it first place ' -of the' towns down south of Auckland, laying Htress upon .its .due hotel accommodation. All visitors endorse this opinion. The road at MartyuV Creek, mentioned ( 'inyo'ir last issue has been passable for whVelcd vehicles this la«.fc fortnight. The /ni.iil coa-ch to CambriUge passing -every 1 • day. — Own Coiu'Kpi'ONdekt.
