ALEXANDRA BRIDGE.

The re-erection of the Bridge. ?.t Alexandra across the Wai pa, which was demolished during the late heavy floods, is being pushed forward by Mr Southey, the contractor ; but instead of being* a beueßt, it ia likely to become a terporto the community. Some of the timber is sound and durable, but tho stringers to bo used are those saved from the old structure, and being rotten to the core, will ronder the bridge totally unsafe for traffic. Much dissatisfaction ia expressed by the residents in and around Alexandra, but wo understand the Board is powerless to act 'in the matter. It is a general Government affair, and of course in c^se of -accident, redress will have to be looked for from that quarter. Nothing, 'however, can be adequate compensation foy a brokon limb, and money canaot restore life. We would recommend our Aloxandra friends to petition the Government and insist upon a' thoroughly substantial bridgo being constructed. It would be equally criminal for the public to stand listlessly by in the face of danger, without attempting to avert it, as for the Government through parsimony to jeopardise life or limb of its subjects. 'If the bridge across the Waipa is to bo constructed, let it jj© done in a satisfactory manner, or left undone altogether.
